Slatwall Panel Information
What is Slatwall?
Slatwall goes by many names such as Slat Wall, Slat Board, Slatboard, Slot Board Groove Wall Board or Slatted Wooden Panels. It is the most popular way of displaying products in the UK. Available in either 8' x 4' or 4' x 4' sheet sizes, it has horizontal grooves across it, allowing slatwall fittings to be placed to display products. These grooves can be filled with coloured slatwall inserts, to strengthen the board and add to its appealing characteristics. The slatwall panel is screwed to the wall, creating a wonderful display for all your products.
What is Slatwall made of?
Our slatwall panels and deluxe slatwall panels are made from medium density fibreboard (MDF). Slatwall panels are then coated with a melamine finish in an array of colours or wood effects.
Are Slatwall Panels fireproof?
Our standard slatwall panels are made from MDF which is not fireproof. But we can supply fire retardant slatwall panels for an additional cost. Please contact us!
How many Slatwall Panels do I need?
This is easy to work out as all our slatwall panels are 1200mm wide with a maximum height of 2400mm. If you are using our slatwall panel joining trims, then allow an extra 5mm between your panels.
How do I safely store Slatwall Panels?
We advise that you store slatwall panels facing upwards on a dry, clean, level floor. This will ensure that the panels do not warp, as with any timber product. Be mindful that slatwall panels can weigh in excess of 40kg and should be moved carefully. We advise that two people should always be used when lifting slatwall.
How much weight can a Slatwall Panel hold?
This is a difficult question to answer as there are many factors to consider. One thing for sure is that if you use PVC slatwall inserts it will hold more. For maximum weight-bearing use our aluminium slatwall inserts. As a rough guide our metal slatwall fittings can hold approximately 15kg if mounted using aluminium slatwall inserts. Please contact us for more detailed information.
How do you cut Slatwall Panels?
Slatwall panels are very easy to trim, and the best way to cut straight lines is using a table saw or circular saw. Remember that if you use a table saw, lay the slatwall face down and for circular saws lay it face up. This ensures you do not chip the panel when cutting. Smaller cuts can be done with a sharp toothed blade. You can cut slatwall panels to size using a saw, but we recommend that you only trim the last panel in a run. By using our slatwall edging trims, it will give you a professional finish.

How do I install Slatwall Panels?
Slatwall is used by thousands of retailers and a host of other businesses to display any product imaginable. It's very adaptable and easy to fit and by purchasing smaller boards, they are easier to work with and weigh much less.
If you have perfectly dry flat solid walls, you can fix your slatwall panels directly to them. By drilling through the slots of the slatwall panel using long screws and raw plugs, you can hide the fixings with our slatwall inserts.
You can also fix your slatwall panels to a wall using wooden battens. This is often easier and helps you to maintain a fixed height of the boards and aids simple fixing of slatwall joining strips. Battens should be fixed to your wall at 600mm spaces, this allows each slatwall panel to be supported by three battens.
For slatwall panels holding a lot of weight we suggest using our aluminium inserts and fixing battens at 300mm spaces. This would mean each slatwall panel is supported by four battens. Simply fix the slatwall panels to them using the same method as mentioned above.
Our 1.2m x 1.2m slatwall boards have a half slot start which means that when one board is mounted on top of another, the butt joint is in the groove of the board and so cannot be seen. This option is normally more economical to deliver than our 2.4m x 1.2m boards. They are also simpler to collect and easier to handle.
Trade Tip: How to hide the shadow line of the vertical butt joint
- Cut the first set of slatwall inserts in half making 2 x 600mm lengths.
- Install the half length of slatwall insert to the first 1200mm wide slatwall panel, so that it only covers half of the length of the groove.
- Next install a full length slatwall insert alongside the half length, so that it bridges across the butt joint.

How do I clean Slatwall Panels?
Slatwall panels can easily be wiped clean with a damp cloth. This will keep your new slatwall looking great and will last for years to come.
Where are Slatwall Panels made?
Our quality slatwall panels are manufactured in the UK, using 18mm thick MDF. This material has shown to be very strong and durable. They are covered with a melamine finish, giving you a coloured or wood effect that retains its smart appearance.

We stock slatwall panels in two different sizes of 2.4m x 1.2m portrait style or 1.2m x 1.2m square. Slatwall grooves are at a 100mm pitch. We are also able to produce a 2.4m x 1.2m landscape format and can supply slatwall panels slotted on 50mm, 75mm or a 200mm pitch.
Our 1.2m square slatwall boards have 12 slots, so you would need one pack of our slatwall inserts per panel. 2.4m x 1.2m slatwall panels are the standard size and have 23 slots, so you will need two packs of inserts.

Pallet size constraints dictate that 1.2m x 1.2m Slatwall must go on a single pallet. Larger 2.4m x 1.2m Slatwall must go on a double pallet. If you order both sizes, we will dispatch all Slatwall on a double pallet. You can view more delivery information here.
